What is ASIC ?

ASIC stands for Application Specific Integrated Circuit.

These circuits are application specific. So it is custom made for a particular application. These are usually designed from the root level based on the requirements of a particular application. Some examples of key application-specific integrated circuits are chips used in toys, memory, and microprocessor interface.

These chips can only be used for the single application for which they were designed. Generally, such integrated circuits (IC) are preferred only for products with a large production flow. As ASICs are designed from the root level, they are costly and are only recommended for high volume production.
