What is MAC Address ?

The MAC (Media Access Control) address is the property of all network devices that uniquely identifies it and is an integral part of network communication. This address is permanent and is assigned when the device is manufactured. MAC addresses consist of 12 alphanumeric characters separated by colons. Only letters A through F are used and are case insensitive, so you don't have to worry about confusing the number 0 with the letter O. Sometimes colons are replaced with dashes.

Examples of MAC addresses go like this....00:1B:67:19:3A:B7 or 00--05--37--D9--3A--B8 b>

MAC addresses have nothing to do with Macintosh / Apple / Mac computers. Anything that connects to the internet via WiFi or ethernet cables will have a MAC address. PCs, smartphones, and game consoles all have MAC addresses. In general, if it connects to the internet, it can be assumed to have a MAC address.

While the abbreviation MAC becomes the standard term, other words or terms are sometimes used instead. WiFi address, Physical Address, Hardware Address, Burnt Address (BIA), Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA) are some of them. Whatever the name, this attribute always consists of 12 alphanumeric characters.
