What is Toslink?

Toshiba Company created the Toslink digital audio communication type. It sends light bursts that are encoded with aural data over a fiber optic connection. You can send a mono, stereo, or even surround audio transmission over a single Toslink connection.

The Sony/Philips Digital Interfance, also known as S/PDIF, is comparable to Toslink. It offers the same digital audio data as S/PDIF but transmits it via a light stream as opposed to an electrical current. The communication is impervious to electrical or magnetic disturbance because the Toslink wire does not use electrical currents. Power Mac G5 laptops, MiniDisc players, professional audio gear, and high-end home entertainment speakers are the most frequent places to find Toslink links.
